PRINCES OF THE NIGHT / THE STORY
From Melbourne’s intimate stages to 22 remarkable years at Crown Melbourne — and a new international chapter. A story of ambition, reinvention and life in the spotlight.
01 / WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Princes of the Night began in Melbourne in 1998 with an idea: take the excitement of a male revue and transform it into an entertainment experience with characters, theatre, music and unforgettable stagecraft.
Founder Craig Wiese drew on his years performing overseas, including Japan, to imagine a show with a life beyond the conventional strip-club stage.
Early chapters included performances aboard Amazon Cruises on the Yarra River and at Wet Willies in Highlander Lane. There were intimate stages, energetic audiences, inventive acts and a developing sense of what Princes could become.
The beginnings were modest. The ambition never was.
THE EARLY YEARS / Reconstructed from the founder’s recollections. Individual venue dates and archival material continue to be documented.
FROM THE ARCHIVES / THE EARLY YEARS
Before the landmark residency came the rehearsals, photo shoots and personalities that helped establish Princes. These photographs offer a glimpse into the company’s formative spirit.

The photographs are authentic Princes archive material. Where dates, names or locations have not been confirmed, captions remain deliberately general.
02 / THE MELBOURNE YEARS
Before the landmark Crown Melbourne years, Princes evolved through an unforgettable collection of local venues. Every room taught the company something new about its audience — and about the show it wanted to become.
Early venue names and approximate sequence reflect the founder’s recollections; precise dates remain part of the archive research.
03 / THE DEFINING CHAPTER
Crown Melbourne had always been part of Craig Wiese’s vision for Princes. He personally pitched the show to Frank Stivala of Primary Artists and was offered a one-month trial.
The trial was demanding. Princes pushed beyond its earlier presentation, with ongoing rehearsals, stronger choreography and a commitment to a true theatrical experience.
That first opportunity grew into an extraordinary 22-year Crown Melbourne residency — a defining achievement for the company and the performers who carried it forward.
FROM THE PRINCES ARCHIVE / CROWN MELBOURNE
The story became more than a stage revue. It grew into a theatrical world of Princes, signature characters, striking costumes and performers whose personalities gave the production its identity.

THE CAST / THE CHARACTERS / THE THEATRE
Through its Crown Melbourne years, Princes developed an unmistakable identity: an ensemble production where choreography, live performance and character-driven storytelling came together.
These original promotional portraits offer a glimpse into one era of that creative journey — the King, Ms Juliette and the Princes who helped bring the kingdom to life.

04 / BEHIND THE CURTAIN
Across generations of Princes, performers, hosts, vocalists, creatives and technicians gave the production its personality — onstage and behind the scenes.
From intimate cabaret performances to large-scale theatrical productions, the company’s identity has always been built around people willing to give everything to an audience.
The founder estimates that close to 100 male performers have helped shape the production over the years. The archive continues to grow as former cast photographs, programmes and personal stories are recovered.

05 / BEYOND MELBOURNE
Princes grew beyond its Melbourne home through Australian casino and resort engagements and appearances across Asia. Each new venue brought a different audience — and another chapter in the story.

Company recollections include a headline performance at the British Chamber of Commerce Ball — a memorable international gala engagement.

06 / BEYOND THE SPOTLIGHT
Radio, television and the people who represented Princes helped carry the show’s personality beyond the theatre.
A living media archive is being assembled from cast memories, programme records and surviving footage. Historical recollections mention:

07 / THE NEXT CHAPTER
The Princes story continues beyond its Melbourne roots. The company’s 2026 Singapore milestone opens another chapter in a journey built on theatre, performance and a determination to keep creating something extraordinary.
